After the BBC's shock decision to suspend full commentary of Southend and Colchester away games this coming season, (is Essex the only county affected?), the fans have not been slow in voicing their, er, concern. The offer of a 2-6 Saturday Sports Show have done little to calm things down.

We held back here at TLG as we were waiting to add something new. My contacts in the radio world were trying to dig deeper with the actual station to add something other than the company line that has been sent back to most Blue supporters, while we as a site have been writing directly to BBC Radio at their Portland Place HQ to see if the people at the top, outside the region, could shed some light on the situation.

(Ha, so much for my local contacts, they gave me the name of a Lynn Wilson at the Beeb, who thanked me for my interest and directed me to the BBC local radio website!  I'll get my coat!)

However, our heroes at The Shrimpers Trust have made the following statement that they are going into battle on our behalf, good luck boys and that reminds me, my renewal fee is due!

Following consultation with the Football Club, the Trust is to lobby the BBC with a view to getting them to change their decision regarding their plans for away commentary this season.

It is the Trust's belief that this was a commercial decision taken without any serious discussion with the football club.

Following this initial contact, the Trust will consider a response and advise whether any action taken by a significant number of supporters would help.
