Sawyer: Playing the waiting game

Sawyer: Not available for the festive period

As announced yesterday in S24 midfielder Lee Sawyer will not be fit for the Boxing Day clash at Aldershot, but it seems the recurrence of his thigh injury will also mean he will miss the New Years Eve game at AFC Wimbledon and the Bank Holiday Monday January 2nd fixture against Dagenham & Redbridge at Roots Hall.

Will the former Chelsea trainee ever get a decent run back in the first team?

Sawyer told www.echo-news.co.uk/: “It’s really frustrating for me because there are a lot of games coming up over Christmas and I was hoping to be involved in them. I came on against Bradford on Friday and thought it went OK, so I thought I might be given more chances. I haven’t really felt a part of things this season because I think I’ve only been involved in about three of the last 24 matches we’ve had. I was hoping to change that but my thigh is pretty painful again now and the way it’s feeling at the moment I would expect to be out for at least two weeks.”

With Bilel Mohsni and Peter Gilbert both suspended the hope is that skipper Chris Barker has recovered to join Mark Phillips in the centre of defence allowing Luke Prosser to left-back.

No confirmation on the former Plymouth defender but last week he said he was hopeful all would be well, though his foot was in plaster at the time.

Then again, his appearance as a Christmas tree at the club party may mean he will be seen over the holiday!: http://yfrog.com/kgqimfuj (from Thursday's Evening Echo, more available it seems!)

Not sure what Blues boss Paul Stuurock would do if Barker is out as well, Timmo a make-shift full back?

Let's hope that doesn't come to pass, a positive result at the Rec is vital if we are to turn this poor run of six matches without a win around.
