Easton: Wants to stay at Roots Hall
Easton: 'It does all bode well for next season'

The Shrimpers faithful have been waiting to see last season's club captain sign on the dotted line to extend his stay with the Essex boys and continue the good work that will hopefully see a promotion push in League Two next time around.

Easton told www.echo-news.co.uk: "I want to stay at Southend. I think there is the nucleus of a really good side here and certainly something for the gaffer to build on. We do need to be more consistent but I think there's a good chance of going for promotion and I want to be a part of that."

Captain Craig made 36 appearances in the last campaign that saw an injury keep him out of the side for a while and Michael Timlin brought in on loan from Swindon, a former club of Easton's as well where Blues boss Paul Sturrock is a former manager, leading to more rumours of a possible Southend move for the Robins midfielder who is out of contract himself in the summer.

For now though the skipper remains a Shrimper, and is hopeful for the future.
Easton concluded: "It was definitely a season of progress. I think the manager had about four players when he first came to the club, so to go from that to finishing in mid-table is impressive. There is slight disappointment that we didn't do a bit better, especially when we were just a point outside the play-offs when we beat Barnet in February. But it does all bode well for next season."

And we hope your part of it Craig, you don't want to miss out on the Scottish tour!

Is another midfielder what we need, what about where you believe the Shrimpers squad should be strengthened? Let's have you're thoughts here:

(Not an exact science, i.e. put attacking central midfielder or striker who lays off Big Baz, but it will give an idea of the thoughts where the team are believed to be weakest.)
