Easton: Shrimpers have to remain positive

Easton: 'Cut out the mistakes we're more than capable of getting three points'

Speaking in his weekly Blues Insider column club captain Craig Easton has given the home support a deserved pat on the back, felt maybe referee East was a touch quick on the whistle last Saturday, (have you seen all three of them?), and finally acknowledges the away trip to second placed Rotherham this weekend may not be a walk in the park, or valley, after two back-to-back home defeats. (Though we won the previous two away games 2-0!)

Easton told www.southendunited.co.uk: "I'd like to mention the positive reaction of the crowd as it was great to hear you all pushing us on to get the equaliser near the end. I know I was critical of some elements within our support in last week's column but I felt Saturday was a good example of the way it should be. With us conceding two goals in the first twenty minutes you could have been forgiven for thinking, here we go again, but you stayed with us and we worked our way back into the game and I felt we all really deserved something from it in the end."

Maybe so, but he wouldn't let it lie there, especially those penalties that were to decide the game.

Easton continued: "You've read the reports and interview's about the game so I don't want to go over old ground but we definitely have to start games better than we have done in the last couple of weeks in order to give ourselves a chance. The two penalties awarded to them obviously contributed to the result. I thought the one given against me was soft as the player went down very easily to say the least, although after watching it again I must admit I possibly could have slowed down a bit and not given him the opportunity to con the ref."

But Captain Craig wasn't finished there.

He went on: "The second one was comical as the boy looked like he had been pole-axed when Hally didn't even touch him. Of course it's the referee's who make these decisions but having players diving certainly doesn't help matters. Saying that, if they were awarded to us we probably wouldn't be complaining. Pato, who could have gone down in their box in the second half, stayed on his feet to attempt a shot even though a foul was committed, so that's giving the message that you only get something if you do go to ground."

I think that's enough on that game now, the decisons have been made, the points have gone.

Onwards my friends, to South Yorkshire, and the promotion chasers that are Roonie Moore's Rotherham, a side made for League Two if ever there was one, though they will have to play better than at Roota Hall last October when losing 1-0.

Easton concluded: "We're looking forward to the Rotherham game this weekend and although it will be another tough one I think if we can play like we did in the second half on Saturday and cut out the mistakes we're more than capable of getting three points."
