Sawyer: 'I have grown up since I was last hear'

21-year old Lee Sawyer is back, again, and message boards are full of concerns about the lad's abilty to allow his obvious talents on a football pitch not to be affected by his temperament off it.

And, honest guv, he's promising that he's going to show us all that the boy's grown up, which seeing as he's been a Dad for a couple of years would be good to see.

Sawyer told www.southendunited.co.uk: "I've had a little look around again today and it doesn't seem one day ago that I was last here. Fot the past year all I have been focused on is getting back into the Football League so I can't stress how delighted I am to achieve that, especially with Southend, that means a lot"

Blimey, there's a tear in my eye, and as for the attitude, forget it; did you hear that? Frigging forget it, everything's OK now.

Lee continued (quietly): "I have grown up since I was last hear. I am going to get my head down and show everyone not only what I can do on the pitch but off it as that is just as important. Southend's result was one of the first I looked out for and I still had a spot for them in my heart"

I tell you, I'm swelling up.

However, with only Anthony Grant and Johnny Herd still here from his last visit Lee has to get to know Luggy's squad.

He explained: "I don't know any of the current team really but it's a fresh start. I trained with the squad today (Tuesday) and it was nice to be around them, they seem a nice bunch. I have always enjoyed playing for Southend, even the second time around when I was on the bench, and I feel confident playing for this club. We have this game on Friday and I'm looking forward to that. If I am playing or on the bench then either way I will be ready if the manager wants me."

Not sure about that Lee but we'll let it pass, let's keep the positive vibes going.

How about his 11 games in the Blue Square South for Woking?

Lee concluded: "Woking was good for me as I played games and even though the football isn't the highest standard it wasn't about that. It was about getting my head down and trying to resurrect my career, which I felt I did and have been rewarded with another chance at Southend. It was part-time, we only trained once a week, but I have been training with other teams to keep my fitness back."

Roll on Friday evening and Bury; floodlights at the Hall, the return of the prodigal son, and maybe onions in the burgers, what more do you want?

Spread the love baby, spread the love.
