Shrimpers reign in VAT rise: 'Our supporters have given us great support'

Don't panic, Uncle Ron will not be asking for more dosh, well, until next comes around anyway.

The wonderfully-named Value Added Tax is levied on the cost of admission to football matches and like many other goods, products and services, the standard rate for these has just been increased from 17.5% to 20%, thanks George.

However, after careful consideration, the club's words, not ours, Southend United has decided to swallow the increase and maintain the present price structure.

Would have enjoyed Ron's request to grab more dosh from season card holders after the last miserable year.

www.southendunited.co.uk tells us: "Our supporters have given us great support and the club hopes this, in some way, helps them continue to so in these demanding financial times. The support is appreciated and it is hoped that this gesture will be well received."

It's good to be loved.
