Barker: 'Want to carry on our good run and send our fans away happy for the summer'

Shrimpers centre-back Chris Barker limped off during the second half of the Easter Monday goalless draw at Macclesfield Town, but will be able to start against the Brewers at the weekend.

Barker told www.echo-news.co.uk: "I will be fine to play and we want to keep this good run we're on going. I picked up a bit of a dead leg in the game against Stevenage and that flared up against Macclesfield so I had to come off. It's fine now though and I'll be OK to play tomorrow which is great because we want to carry on our good run of results and send our fans away happy for the summer."

The Essex boys are certainly in a good run of form with only one defeat in six games, then again so are Burton who are unbeaten in four, but what has really improved for the home side is at the back where a goal hasn't been conceded for the last three matches.

Barker explianed: "We are doing much better at the back now and it's just a shame we couldn't have done this sooner. We've done quite well this season considering where the club was to begin with. We didn't start the season well and didn't get many points during the opening 12 games or so which is what maybe will cost us a place in the place offs. But now we want to make sure we finish well and then take that in to next season too to ensure we don't make the same mistake again."

Possible Southend United: Morris, Clohessy, Mohsni, Barker, Prosser, Ferdinand, Grant, Easton, Hall, Crawford, Corr.

Subs: Evans, Coughlan, Comminges, Sawyer, Soares, Sturrock, Asante.
