Shrimpers fitness coach set to leave for Charlton Athletic

A blow to Blues boss Paul Sturrock and the club in what has so far been a realtively good close season for the Shrimpers is that fitness coach Laurence Bloom is on the verge of joining League One side Charlton Athletic.

As ever nowadays it's a couple of tweets that have set the story up and ironic it involves one of the backroom staff that has actually survived the earlier culling due to the club's well documented financial problems.

It all started with top scorer Barry Corr, who doesn't seem to be afraid to speak his mind, tweeting last night that 'Snoz', along with 'Luggy' who else is out there, was off to the Smoke.

A couple of Corr tweets on the subject: 'All the best to Lawrence bloom, gutted he's leavin us but happy for him. I've just gone up a place on the biggest nose at the club top 10! & 'Apparently he stood out at his interview from all the other candidates, well his nose is #ginourmos'!!'

Very PC Baz!

Echo journalist Chris Phillips followed up this morning: 'Losing Lawrence Bloom is a big blow for blues. Very highly rated by Paul Sturrock'

So unless we're being fed a curve ball it looks like he's off to join former full back and overall Shrimpers legend Chris Phillips, as well as ex-players Alan McCormack and Simon Francis, not at Bournemouth yet, as an Addick.

Only last Monday Laurence was talking to the Echo about the return of the players on Friday, July 1st to pre-season training.

Bloom told www.echo-news.co.uk: “The majority of the players really looked after themselves during the summer break and I’m really pleased with the shape they’re in. For the first couple of days we conducted a number of tests on them, including a bleep test and then some in the gym as well. But it went well and we will be kicking on with the work this week, including some boxing conditioning work at the TSG Fight School in Westcliff.”

Majority, who were the players that hadn't looked after themselves?!

In advance of any official word we're take this opportunity to offer good luck to Laurence and his move to South London.
