Seven Changes Made To Fixture List

Last updated : 02 July 2004 By Robert Craven

Five of the matches will be at Southend’s very own Roots Hall, with the first of the games to come under the floodlights on Friday October 8th, when Lincolnshire side Boston United are the visitors. Six weeks later, Grimsby Town will be subjected to what supporters will hope is a Roots Hall roasting, whilst another side in their county, Scunthorpe United again visit a day earlier than usual on Friday 11th February 2005. Last season the Seasiders ran out 4-2 winners in a thriller at the Hall.

Rochdale make the long trip down from Lancashire on Friday 25th March, whilst Bristol Rovers will become the final side to face United on a Friday night this season on April Fools Day. Two long trips to be made by Southend’s ever-faithful support have to be made pre-weekend as Blues make the 170-odd mile journey to Bristol Rovers’ Memorial Ground on Friday 27th August, and then the 230-mile trip to Swansea City’s Vetch Field for the last time on Friday 4th February. All of the games provisionally kick off at 7:45 p.m.

Of course, for us at TLG, this is good news, and as a knock-on experience for you, the readership. As a result we will be able, providing Under-18 and Under-16 matches continue to take place as usual on Saturday mornings, to cover more matches than ever as part of our ongoing commitment to youth team football at Southend United Football Club. However, given United’s poor record under the lights on Friday nights historically, we can only hope that this does not backfire on the Shrimpers management.
