Scully's Seaside Stint Comes To An End

Tony Scully has returned to Cambridge United.
Scully, who arrived at Roots Hall in time to play in the 1-0 Division Three defeat against Wrexham on November 2nd, endeared himself to supporters with his whole-hearted performances but unfortunately for the much travelled winger his final touch often left a lot to be desired and his fitness tended to get the better of him towards the end of matches.

Scully made twelve appearances for the Shrimpers but failed to score despite having a huge hand in United's early goal against Hartlepool in the FA Cup at Roots Hall. It was Scully's shot which eventually forced Graeme Lee into an own goal.

However, although the 26-year old Irishman could have had his loan extended into a third month, manager Rob Newman decided that Saturday's match at Carlisle United was to be his final one for the Shrimpers, “Now is the time I think to try and get Steven Clark back to what he was last year – he’s had a couple of months where he’s been watching Tony Scully – but Tony’s gone back now" admitted Newman who confessed that Scully's performance at Brunton Park wasn't quite what he expected.

However Newman has also stressed that he has not shut the door completely on Scully and if he should become available at the end of the season he will be willing to take another chance.
