Roof May be Closed for Final!

High winds and rain are forecast for the West of England and South Wales on Sunday, and officials at the Millennium Stadium have stated that the roof, which closes in just 20 minutes, may well be shut for the big LDV Vans Trophy Final between Blackpool and Southend United.

With the Welsh Rugby team facing a cricial Six Nations match at the stadium just six days later, groundstaff will undoubtedly be keen to keep to pitch in top condition, and it is understood that the Football League will make a decision on whether to keep the roof closed on Sunday morning.

If the roof does jam itself closed, it will be the second National Cup Final to be played indoors following last season's FA cup Final between Arsenal and Southampton. The Division One play-off final of 2002 between Norwich City and Birmingham City was also played beneath the protection of the Millennium Stadium's roof.
