Port Vale signings U-turn angers Adams after Robins defeat

Adams: 'Unless the situation changes, we'll have to say goodbye to the loan players as well'
Port Vale boss Micky Adams is never less than outspoken and has revealed his disappointment at the club's U-turn over how much funding he would get in January, four days before they travel to Roots Hall and face the Shrimpers in League Two at the weekend.
Adams, speaking after the 2-1 home defeat to Cheltenham on Monday, claimed he was told to draw up a shortlist of potential signings by Peter Miller when he was Vale chairman.
But Miller's reign as chairman ended in the New Year and Adams now admits it is unlikely Vale Park will be seeing any new additions in the transfer window.
Adams said: "I was told maybe three or four months ago there would be money available for me to strengthen the side. I'm disappointed because Mr Miller told me on more than one occasion to put together a list of potential signings, which I've done. Unless the situation changes dramatically in the next 48 hours, we'll have to say goodbye to the loan players (Guy Madjo, Jennison Myrie-Williams and Liam Chilvers) as well."
Could be a young team that faces us Saturday!
Anyway, after that loss, their second defeat in a row after three successive wins, you just don't know which Valiants side will turn up, the one that's been losing hopefully, Adams was his usual honest self.
And he was adamant his side deserved at least a share of the spoils after they lost to the in-form Gloucester Robins, unbeaten themselves for 9 games, 7 of them bringing victory!
The visitors took a 63rd-minute lead at Vale Park when Alan Bennett converted from Marlon Pack's right-wing free-kick, while substitute Brian Smikle doubled the Robins' advantage 10 minutes later.
It looked like game over, but Vale rallied and the fightback looked on when substitute Sean Rigg reduced the arrears 12 minutes from time. But it proved mere consolation as Cheltenham's defence held firm under late pressure.

Adams explained: "It's very frustrating because we definitely deserved to take something from the game. The boys played particularly well in the first half and there was some last-ditch defending on their part. I was delighted with the performance, but we had to be wary because Cheltenham are a top side. We gave away a soft free-kick and then didn't defend it properly for the first goal, then their second looked like it had killed us off. But the lads rallied and got back into the game and it's very disappointing to end up with nothing."
Wth the way the Shrimpers are blowing hot and cold predicting a result on this match could prove hazardous!
