Plummer Joins U’s

Daryl Plummer in typically laid back mode
The 19-year-old Londoner, who started his career with Leyton Orient before joining the Shrimpers as a first-year scholar, has now left United having had the final year of that scholarship terminated, and instead joins up with Duncan, who first brought him to Southend, at Cambridge United, where he will have a trial to ascertain whether he has the ability to join up with the first team next season. Should he do so he would be reunied with another ex-Shrimper, Daniel Webb, who is on loan at the Abbey Stadium from
Hull City.

Plummer will feel hard done by after his departure from the Seasiders, having failed to break through into the first team squad whilst others, a full year younger than him in the case of Michael Kightly and Stuart Williams, have both been involved. Indeed, the speedy winger travelled with Kightly to Hartlepool United in March last year, but when the former Tottenham Hotspur youngster was named on the substitutes bench, he was not. He failed to be involved again.

This season has seen the tricky customer fall out of reserve team contention as well. Starting just two games, both out of position as a centre-forward, and a further five as a substitute, without ever impressing enough to be handed a start on the left-hand side of midfield. The news has yet to be confirmed by Southend United.

We at The Little Gazette would like to thank Plummer for all the pleasure he has given us watching him in the youth sides and the reserves, and wish him all the best for the future.
