Anthony Grant Meet the blues day

Grant; a doubt for Swindon anyway, now could be out for the Essex derby

Former Chelsea man Anthony Grant went off against the Robins in the 71st minute with an ankle injury and Southend will have to wait and see if it affects his selection for the derby game against Colchester United, being shown live on Sky Sports Monday February 8th, kick-off 19.45..

Blues boss Steve Tilson, already without the ColU two for the game, will be hoping it's not serious.

Tilly spoke to www.echo-news.co.uk: "Anthony went over on his ankle but fingers crossed it won't be too bad. It's too early to tell at the moment but hopefully he will be able to play in our next game at Colchester."

Granty did go over on the part of the pitch which referee Phillips decided was OK to play on after speaking to both managers before the game. He was concerned with the shaded goal mouth in front of the South Stand, which had not completely thawed from the cold night.

Tilly continued: "It was rock hard over there but it was only a small area of the pitch. If it had been any bigger then I'm sure the ref would have called it off but the worry is always injuries to players and unfortunately Granty got one and so did their right-back."

Scott Vernon

The ColU Two - Balders and Scotty; good first games as Shrimpers says Tilly

It will be important that he has Grant at his disposal, as well as loanee centre-half M'Voto, both fully fit, as he will have to do without the Colchester debutants, defender Pat Baldwin and striker Scott Vernon.

They are both with the Shrimpers until the end of the season but they can't play in the derby match under the terms of their loan agreement.

However, Tilly was pleased with both their peformances, if accepting it was the powerful Frenchman's error that led to the first Swindon goal after only 45 seconds!

He told www.southendunited.co.uk: "We felt it was important that Jean played some part in the game, as he will have to play Colchester. I thought Scott Vernon, for someone that has been out for 10 weeks, was very good in his first game back and was always a threat. Pat Baldwin is a good organiser and that is what we need at the moment, someone with experience."
