Phillips: 'I should’ve scored (v Cobblers), and I was really annoyed I didn’t.'
Shrimpers centre-back Mark Phillips has grabbed eight goals this season, and one of them was back on September 30th when his second in the middle of a three goal defeat of Saturday's opposition Shrewsbury Town at Roots Hall majes him well aware that Graham Turner's side will want to show the Shrimpers travelling faithful what they can really do!
Phillips told www.echo-news.co.uk: “Shrewsbury will feel like they owe us one and will definitely be out for revenge so we know we’re in for a really difficult game. They have an excellent home record but we’ve been doing well away so it should make for an interesting match and it’s really imprortant too. We’re seven points clear of them at the moment and can extend that gap to 10 if we win. But if they win then the gap is down to four so it’s a real six pointer for both sides.”
Southend have started another unbeaten run, though at four it's not quite up to 17-game standards just yet, and the previous weekend saw at 5-2 win at Northampton Town, a match that saw Mark, strangely during this present campaign, and from his usual source Ryan Hall, a free-kick this time, miss a sitter!
Phillips expplained: “I should’ve scored and I was really annoyed I didn’t. Normally this season I’ve had one chance and scored so I’ll allow myself one miss, especially as we were still able to go on and win the game.”
