Phillips: 'I was happy with my performance and of course the clean sheet'
It's been a long, hard road since February, and the last time the Roots Hall faithful saw centre-back Mark Phillips turning out for the first team, a 3-2 win over Wycombe Wanderers as it happens, and only his seventh league game as a Shrimper in over a year since signing.
And after a lot of hard work they, and the player himself, were rewarded with an excellent defensive display in the well deserved single goal victory over the Bulls of Hereford at Roots Hall Saturday afternoon.
Phillips told www.echo-news.co.uk: “It was very nice for me to be back out there again playing. It's been a long time coming for me and I can't even begin to explain how hard those months have been for me. But I was delighted to be picked for this game and, although I'm still not quite at full sharpness, I was happy with my performance and of course the clean sheet. I just hope there are now more of both of those to come.”
