Paul Brush; a gentleman who will be sadly missed at Roots Hall

This most challenging of seasons for all Southend United supporters took another horrible twist Monday when the news came through that Blues assistant boss Paul Brush had left the club.

The No. 2 to manager Steve Tilson has been part of a successful team that has brought two promotions, including the third tier Championship and a winning play-off final in Cardiff, a couple of LDV Finals also at the Millennium Stadium, a run to the quarter finals of the Carling Cup only ended at Premiership Tottenham Hotspur, but there was the glorious win over Manchester United in the previous round.

Personally, 'In T&B We Trust' was more than just a token headline above this site, sadly no longer relevant, it was something that made one get up on a Saturday morning and make long trips to Hartlepool for.

Something to believe in during these dark days, that Tilly & Brush were a team and would see us out of this mess with all the odds stacked against them.

On many away trips Paul was the first to get in front of the fans applauding their efforts and the last to leave.

This is a huge blow and deserves more than a few words written quickly during a lunch break, so for now S24 takes time out to thank Brushy for all he's done and wish him the best of luck in the future.

I get a feeling 'going up with Tilly and Brush' might be heard again, just not at Roots Hall.
