Two clubs from both the northern and the southern sections of the 2004/5 competition have been awarded byes, and again it does not include the Shrimpers, who were handed a bye through to Round Two in 1997/8, their first year back in the competition having been in Division One for the six intervening seasons.
Instead, from the south, Swindon Town, who defeated United 6-1 at this stage of the 2002/3 Trophy and Northampton Town, who were also given a straight route through to the last 32 of last year’s competition, where they eventually fell in the regional semi-final to Colchester United after silver goal extra time, are the two lucky recipients. From the north Oldham Athletic and Tranmere Rovers will not get the Trophy underway in the week beginning September 27th.
The draw for the first round takes place live on SKY Sports’ Soccer AM show this Saturday morning, and although it is billed to begin at 9:30, it could be conducted anytime between then and ten o’clock. The full list of sides in the draw is as follows:
