Mohamed: 'Southend is far more important than the Tottenham game'
Shrimpers Paul Sturrock boss signed the Robins striker Kaid Mohamed from Welsh League outfit Carmarthen Town in 2007 while in charge at Swindon Town but he failed to make a breakthrough at the County Ground.
He then went on a trip around the non-league before given another chance in the fourth tier with Cheltenham where he has turned into a left winger with great success.
Mohamed told www.thisisgloucestershire.co.uk: "I've been really enjoying the new role and the system seems to be working really for us, we're up there in the table and doing well. My strength is running with the ball, I'm enjoying it here playing for the gaffer and with the rest of the squad. I always knew I could play at this level and now I feel I am properly settled in and showing what I can do. It was about being given a chance, I feel comfortable at this level now, as well as feeling fit and sharp, and I'm really enjoying my football."
Luggy has shown at Roots Hall what he can do with players plucked from obscurity, Bilel Mohsni and Ryan Hall for example, so it's unlucky that Kaid never got to show the vetearn Scot what he can do, he may well do Saturday afternoon at Whaddon Road!
Mohamed said: "It was quite a strange time as Paul Sturrock signed me and told me I was one for the future but I never really got a chance to show what I could do. My only chance came when he went to Plymouth and his replacement gave me a bit of game time. Tomorrow's game is a battle of two good sides, they're going well, we're flying and we're really looking forward to it."
Of course, as with Southend who may face Liverpool away if they can get past Oldham in Tuesday's replay, the Robins have an eye on a Premership trip in the third round of the FA Cup, in their case Spurs at White Hart Lane, but as both bosses have madde clear, the focus must remain on grabbing vital league points.
Mohamed concluded: "Everyone is delighted with the draw, but Southend is far more important than the Tottenham game. If you were to ask every single one of the players what they would prefer, playing Tottenham or getting promoted, they would all say promotion. Beating Southend will put us in a great position so as a game it's far more important than going to Spurs."
Fair enough, and we're only a day away from finding out what happens.
