Morris is back as No.1 for Shrimpers: 'Win & we're second in the table & be six points from fourth

Morris: Pens new deal

Glenn Morris: 'I don’t think I have anything to prove'

Shrimpers keeper Glenn Morris has not started a first team match since October after a run of 17 successive games from the start of the season.

A thigh problem though let in Baggies loanee Luke Daniels who kept his place 15 times a Blue until Monday's 1-1 draw with Dagenham & Redbridge even though he's been fit for a few weeks now.

However, it seems his bench warming has not affected his confidence and will get some valuable game time in a practice match arranged for the reserves this afternoon.

Morris told www.echo-news.co.uk: “I’ve been training hard for a while now but there are things that happen in matches that you can’t replicate in training, so playing some part in the game will do me good. It’s been frustrating not playing but there wasn’t really anything I could do about it. Before I got injured I thought my form had been good and the team were flying, so hopefully now I’ll get another chance and we can do well again.”

That 4-1 win at home to Torquay United on October 22nd seems a long time ago, and, arguably, the last time the Shrimpers looked really dominant, so welcome back Glenn, and hopefully the rest of the team can play as they did on that Autumn afternoon with only four fourth tier fixtures on Saturday when Port Vale come to town in what is effectively our game in  hand.

A similar result to the Gulls game would be nice!

Morris said: “We need to try and get our confidence back again and it’s a big game on Saturday because our rivals are playing in the FA Cup. If we win we will go second in the table and be six points from fourth, so that’s obviously what we’re aiming for.”
