Mildenhall ruled out for a month: Joyce, Masters or experienced cover?

Just when the ex-Yeovil keeper would have felt he had won over the Blues faithfull with a brave display against Hereford, TLG making him man of the match, he faces a month on the sidelines.

Both MRI and CT scans confirmed yesterday's news there was no break but he has suffered ligament damage.

Southend boss Steve Tilson spoke to the club's official site about Mildenhall being out for at least four weeks: "That's the very least amount of time Steve is going to be out and of course it's disappointing news that we're going to be without him. We obviously knew that he was going to be out for a while and it is a little better than we first thought because the ankle isn't broken but it's still frustrating. He has done well for us, especially on Saturday, and it's a blow that we're going to be without him for a minimum of a month."

Well we signed the boy Yank to be his No.2 so he should be first in line but many feel his inexperience will count against him with a defence that is still feeling it's way back to full confidence.

A keeper could be brought in to play against Crewe and the other games on loan but what sort of message will that send out to the young reserve shot stoppers?

Tough one for Tilly over the next few days, my money would be on Ian Joyce starting, at least at the weekend, with Masters on the bench.

In the meantime we'll all have to wait and see what the Blues boss decides.
