Macca overwhelmed by standing ovation

It surprised even a 42 year veteran like myself as the crowd stood and applauded our resident rotweiller back into action in the 73rd minute of Friday's amtch against Orient. Something I don't think Nicky Bailey is ever going to receive!

Speaking to Blues World Macca said: "I couldn't believe the reception I got, it was unbelivable. Everybody had been saying to me that I would get a good reception but to get that sort of one really got to me. It made me stand back and appreciate being at a club like Southend and I want to thank the fans for it because it was immense."

Macca will now try and get a full game in for United's reserves at Roots Hall Tuesday afternoon while accepting the first teams fine form of late.

"The plan now is too get my place back. At the moment the lads are playing well and whilst that is happening I will just have to be happy to just sit on the bench and keep pushing them. I am going to try and play 90 minutes for the reserves and take it from there. Now I have to get my fitness back and build my strength up as I hyave lost quite a bit of muscle in my quads."

Well, all Shrimpers welcome you back Alan, quads and all.
