Macca out for up to two months

Oh bugger! The words coming out of Roots Hall all week have been preparing us for the worse, but it still came as a blow when it was finally confirmed.

Picture of Alan McCormack

We might not see Alan McCormack in a Blue shirt again until Yeovil away on October 4. (Though a return for the Borient at the Hall a week before would be nice!)

Macca will have the operation on Friday to work on the extensively torn cartiladge in his knee which was revealed after Monday's MRI scan.

He told the official website; "I can't believe it. It happenrd in trainingwhen I planted my foot and it swelled up. At the time it didn't seem too bad and I managed to train two days later. I got through that session fine but right at the end I felt it go again so I knew something must have been up."

There is hope that he might return earlier; "They won't know exactly how bad it is until the keyhole surgery and if it is a small tear I might be out for as little as four weeks."

We are all saying a little prayer that in fact turns out to be the case.

Tilly himself accepts that the player will be badly missed; "It's a big knockback for us," he said. "Alan is an important player and we're obviously disappointed that he's going to be missing for that amount of time."

It's a particular blow to Macca as he had only signed a new contract a short while ago and was one of last season's 'A' team that was still here and ready for the fight. Nicky Bailey will certainly miss the freedom Maccas' no nosense approach gives him, allowing him to go forward and cause the damage he did to great affect last season. Let's not forget his own scoring ability as well, the injury time winner at Huddersfield will live long in the memory of anybody who was threre.

So, is this the time that Tilly looks to the Moose to prove he's more than just one for the future with the chance of a decent run in the first team in his favourite position?  If Anthony Grant does sign on the dotted line we could start the season with a more defensive formation, diamonds or no diamonds.

We should know more on Saturday when the team steps out against Wycombe.

Good luck from everyone at TLG Towers Macca on your road to recovery.
