Lucky Luke some may say, but not us, well maybe
Another one signed up and correctly predicted, not that we are jumping from the rooftops, EEB gave defender Luke Prosser 2 4's for the final brace of matches of the season believing he did little, 'mostly slicing the ball into the top of whatever stand he was playing next to!'
Oh dear! Well, it was a nice equaliser against his former club Port Vale last month!
Anyway, the London born boy's present deal was to have ended in June and he's put pen to paper for another 12 months.
We felt that Blues boss Paul Sturrock had seen enough of Johnny Herd, now confirmed, and that Prosser playing the last seven games at left back, with Peter Gilbert out with a hernia problem causing surgery, may save Luke and that turned out to be the case.
Sturrock told www.southendunited.co.uk: "Luke showed in the last seven matches taht he can do a job in League Two for us. He came into the side and coped at left-back very well in my opinion. We got him out on loan to Rushden & Diamonds earlier in the year to play games and it did him the world of good. He's got some verstilty as he can also play at centre-back which offers us some cover."
Not sure the fourth tier is where he can do a job but in Luggy we have to trust.
Altogether Luke turned out 21 times as a Shrimper and there's a further option of a year if the club decide to option it.
We wish him well, honest.
(From S24 Thursday, April 28th.)
Out of contract (S24 guess on future in brackets, are if correct in bold);
Keepers Glenn Morris (one year), Rhys Evans (out).
Defenders Graham Coughlan (one year but promotion to assistant manager), Luke Prosser (one year by the skin of his teeth), Johnny Herd (very sad, but probably out).
Midfielders Craig Easton (two years), Adam Bouzid (out), Louie Soares (out), Miguel Comminges (tough, he hasn't really played, but out), and Merrick James-Lewis (so young, but out).
Strikers; Blair Sturrock (one year); Kyle Asante (one year).
On longer deals:
Sean Clohessy, Peter Gilbert, Chris Barker, Mark Phillips (lucky Mark!), Bilel Mohnsi, Anthony Grant, Barry Corr, Lee Sawyer, Ryan Hall, Kane Ferdinand, Harry Crawford and, er, Matt Patterson, good luck Patters in getting back in favour, but some decent names in that group.
Last day in our poll to find out if you believe the Trust should cough up the dosh to help the Shrimpers go to Scotland:
