Leonard: 'Certainly wasn't as good as the goals I got in pre-season but they all count'

Leonard:  'I really want to push on and get more appearances'

If last season's top scorer, the injured Barry Corr is tweeting about your goalscoring exploits, then you know you must be doing somethinmg right, even if it's 'lenos shot killed 3 snails on the way in, he's lethal!!'

Don't worry Ryan, you were part of a successful Shrimpers side that won 3-2 at Port Vale Saturday, and playing on the right of midfield no less.

Leonard told www.echo-news.co.uk“Getting the win was what mattered most but obviously I was really pleased to get my first goal too. It wasn't one of my usual ones and it certainly wasn't as good as the goals I got in pre-season but they all count. And although it took a slight deflection on the way in it was definitely my goal as well.”

Ryan's low shot that somehow squirmed under the Valiant keepers body restored Southend's two-goal advantage, and even though they gave away a second half penalty they held on for a hard fought for three points.

Leonard said: “I thought Mark Phillips and Chris Barker were great at the back and the whole team worked hard to get a really good win. I was delighted to come in to play a part in it and hopefully this time I've done enough to stay in the side because I really want to push on and get more appearances.”

And we wouldn't be upset if you do, good luck mate.
