Leeds United Appeal Fails!!!!!

A three-man arbitration panel has ruled in favour of the Football League over the 15 points Leeds were deducted at the start of the season for failing to follow the competition's insolvency rules when the club came out of administration. It means Leeds stay sixth in League One, with a play-off place already secure along with the Blues.

Here at TLG we strongly believe this was the correct decision and congratulate the appeal panel.

A statement on the Leeds website said: "If what football achieves out of this is clarity for clubs in the future then that can mitigate some of our disappointment as we want all clubs to survive through what are very difficult times. The matter is now closed and the focus can return to the pitch. If the team are now able to progress through the play-offs to the Championship then it would be the appropriate reward for the efforts of the club's fans and players in overcoming the penalty imposed on the club."

Leeds had already been docked 10 points for entering administration at the end of last season while still in the Championship. They felt the additional penalty during the current campaign had been unduly harsh. Any return of points would have upset Leeds' League One promotion rivals, with Doncaster and Carlisle likely to have taken legal action.

Chairman Ken Bates was as gracious as ever. Speaking after the announcement, he said: "In my view, we have had a moral victory. It is unfair and unjust to Leeds United. But we will get on with our lives." (Yeh right Ken!)

One Leeds fan was equally annoyed. "I am so mad and I still want answers.
Anyone else feel the same! (Not on here mate) I'm happy to accept the decision but it stinks. How can an independant panel make a decison based on outside interests? I'm appalled. (What outside interest? This will run and run for the Leeds supporters but for the other clubs in the league this was the only decision that made sense.)

It confirms Swansea City as League One Champions, congratulations, and leaves Doncaster Rovers, Nottingham Forest and Carlisle fighting out for the remaining automatic promotion place at the weekend in the last league fixtures of the season.

For the Blues the Port Vale game takes on a new dimension as three points are needed to confirm fifth place over Leeds and play the club in fourth position.  This may be the out of form Carlisle, possibily a more attractive proposition than Donny or Forest at the semi-final stage.

Finally, it may also help Tilly to decide about resting key players on Saturday as a win becomes more vital than it may have looked earlier in the day especially with Leeds at home to Gillingham.
