Lee Sawyer - The rough facts

Last updated : 21 August 2008 By Thurrock Blue

Name: Lee Sawyer
Born:10/09/89
Birthplace:Leytonstone

A competitive attacking midfielder who has been with Chelsea since he was 9, he overcame a stress fracture in his back and a cruciate ligament injury in his last season as a Chelsea Schoolboy.

He signed his first Professional contract in July 2007, and his stint at Southend and impending debut would be his first crack (abeit for sitting on the bench against Rosenborg and Everton) at competitive Football.

As I mentioned in the earlier piece he would have played in Chelsea's FA Youth Cup Final last season but he was ruled out through suspension.

Having met his new team mates at lunch on Saturday he was actually in the stand against Millwall and he states that he thought we should have won the game.

He then had his first training session at Boots and Laces today which he found challenging: "Training was tough, it was probably the toughest I have experienced as I trained with the reserves in the morning and the first team in the afternoon"

Sawyer rates himself as a "box to box midfielder" so hopefully he'll be putting the ball in the net a couple of times over the next three months. He has been handed the number 28 shirt for his time here.
