Herd: Looking to move on
Herd: 'The manager has brought in his own players, which is fair enough'

A fine product of the Shrimpers successful youth policy left-back Johnny Herd has many supporters at the club, however S24 has been reporting for some time that he wasn't expected to be offered a new deal when his present contract ends in the summer, and now the player himself accepts he may be playing his football elsewhere next season.

Herd told www.echo-news.co.uk: "It's only my personal view but I don't think I will still be with Southend next year. I had hopes to get a few more games this season and it's been a difficult time for me. The manager has brought in his own players, which is fair enough, and my season was summed up by the fact that when I did play I pulled my hamstring after 25 minutes and had to come off."

Johnny has only made six starts this season, and after he limped off last month early on in the 4-0 demolition of Hereford United some felt he may never be seen in a Southend shirt again.

At least when he did, Johnny made the first for Louie Soares, and scored the second himself in Tuesday afternoon's 3-0 reserve win over Watford.

Since picking up that injury Luke Prosser, also hoping to be offered new terms for 2011/12, ahs played at left-back quite impressively, and of course Luggy will have regular first choice Peter Gilbert returning soon from injury, though it could be said the jury is still out on the former Northampton defender as well.

Herd continued: "It was great to get back out there again and my hamstring felt fine again. It would be nice to now be involved in the remaining two first team matches which are left."

And if he does move on, we'll always have that throw against Chelsea!
