Johnson: On his way out of Roots Hall
So those talks last Wednesday didn't go well!
Shrimpers winger Jemal Johnson, a free summer signing on a 12-month deal from the wilds of Bulgaria, was suspended by the Essex boys for two weeks at the end of November pending a full review into his conduct following his October arrest by police outside Faces nightclub in Ilford.
The American, 26, was not considered for selection and did not take part in training during that time, with the internal disciplinary hearing taking place last week where he was given the chance to give his side of the story.
A decision has now been taken that Johnson has no future at the Essex club, subject to an appeal.
A statement on
www.southendunited.co.uk said:
"Southend United can confirm it has provided Jemal Johnson with 14 days notice of the football club's intention to terminate his contract. The decision follow an internal investigation and disciplinary hearing into the conduct of the player following his arrest at a nightclub in late October. Mr Johnson has 14 days in which to appeal the decision. No further comment will be made."
Let's face it, as cynical as it is, Johnson has never lived up to any potential the Shrimpers faithful belived he may have had and could bring to the team, he's not been very good!
Oh well, that would certainly free up some funds for transfers!
Will JJ appeal, would it be worth it? Discuss here: http://boards.footymad.net
