Barker: A happy man
Chris Barker: The Shrimpers new captain

It's official! Southend United's, S24, and about everybody else who ran a poll, player-of-the-season defender Chris Barker is the new club captain, replacing former skipper Craig Easton, who it's now been confirmed has left Roots Hall. (www.southendunited-mad.co.uk)

New signing from Millwall striker Neil 'Bomber' Harris is the new vice-captain.

A tweet direct from the training ground where the players have reported for the first day of training for the new season announced the news, and though not a total surprise, and not quite in the Kevin Maher or Adam Barrett mode, it still seems strange to write ex-Captain Craig after all he did during the last campaign after our summer of madness.

SUFCRootsHall wrote simply: 'Chris Barker is made club captain and Neil Harris is vice captain'

And that was that!

They also passed on some of Luggy's words of wisdom for the lads, but let's digest this one before we move on to that!
