Harris: 'We will be training on Christmas Day'

Shrimpers veteran striker Neil Harris has seen a lot of time on the bench but it's odds-on, whether as a sub or in the strating line-up, with so many matches in such a short period as ever over the holiday period Bomber will be given his chance to make his mark and show the Shrimpers faithful what the New Den enjoyed over many years.

First, time to let the hair down and at the club Christamas party they had the chance to do just that, especially with Luke Prosser and Harry crawford going as a pair of cockroaches, nice!

Harris told www.echo-news.co.uk: "It’s helped us bond closer together and having a such a good spirit is hugely important in football. Hopefully, that can stand us in good stead during the Christmas period. It’s a busy and important time of year for us with a lot of games in a short period of time. That means we will be training on Christmas Day, but that’s not something you will find me moaning about. We’re lucky to play football for a living and plenty of other professions —including doctors, nurses and policeman — will also be working."

And here's some proof of what our skipper looked like!: http://yfrog.com/kgqimfuj (from Thursday's Evening Echo, more available it seems!)

Great stuff; but can we turn around this horrible little run of six matches without a win, including four successive defeats, with the Shots at the Rec on Boxing Day kicking-off three League Two clashes in seven days?

Harris said: "We need to prepare correctly for the game at Aldershot on Boxing Day and we want to give our fans some Christmas cheer by grabbing a positive result there. Unfortunately, we go in to the match on the back of a 1-0 defeat to Bradford City at Roots Hall. That game proved that when things aren’t going your way they really aren’t going your way because it seemed to have 0-0 written all over it. However, we then conceded a sloppy team goal right at the end and now it’s all about bouncing back. Aldershot have had some good results this season but have been a bit inconsistent and that’s why they’re not higher at the table. It will be a real test for us but we’re looking forward to it and want to get ourselves and our season going again."

Go Bomber!
