Griemink To Miss Six Weeks

Griemink has avoided a cruciate ligament injury
The tall Dutchman, who obtained his injury making a brave save against Rushden & Diamonds last Saturday, has been in good form between the sticks, preventing previous incumbent Darryl Flahavan from breaking back into the first team. However, after scans yesterday morning, physiotherapist John Stannard confirmed that he was now facing a spell on the touchlines.

Speaking to the club’s official website, www.southendunited.co.uk, Stannard said, “We’ve had the results back from Bart’s scan and it has confirmed what we already expected. Their players has gone in with his studs and it’s jarred Bart’s knee with his foot on the turf”. Continuing, the ex-Dagenham & Redbridge sponge-man expressed his relief that it was not a cruciate injury, “His cruciate ligaments are fine and he has a second degree sprain of the knee”. Had it been the former, Griemink could have missed the majority of the rest of the season.

Talking to the assembled masses at the Shrimpers Bar on Tuesday evening, manager Steve Tilson talked of his intentions to bring in a short-term replacement. “Darryl Flahavan is our number two, and he deserves a chance”, Tilson stated, “If I bring Simon Royce [responding to an article in the Southend Evening Echo] in as number one, then Darryl is back to number two, and he may as well go up the road. We are looking to get a young Premiership goalkeeper in as cover for Darryl”.
