French Foreign Legion Grows: Defender Dervite signs from Spurs

Last updated : 29 January 2009 By Shrimpers24
At last, a big bloke at the back!

It's taken Tilly two seasons but we do trust him! Now what's he going to do with Clarkey or Captain Adam, will the Barrowdale transfer fall through as Adam goes to left back.

Saturday has become a bit more interesting.

And another French speaker to help out Laurent and Christophe order the escargots at lunchtime.

Dervite has already been briefed on his main job and told www.southendunited.co.uk: "On set-pieces I have been told Southend are struggling in defending them so hopefully I can help them and do well for the club. We trained this morning and the squad and the standard is quite good so I am happy to be here."

He signed for Spurs from Lille as a 17 year-old three years ago and played one game in the Carling Cup before picking up a long term injury.

Since then he's been picked three times as a substitute and played a number of times for the reserves.

The match up with the Blues will at last allow Dorian a chance at play regular first team football.

The Dervite Files

On 1 July 2006, he joined Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur FC. On 14 July 2006, he scored the first goal of his Tottenham career on his debut appearance in a pre-season friendly for the Spurs XI team in a 7-1 win against Enfield Town. He then went on to make appearances against the Chelsea Youth Team. Dervite eventually played for the Reserves against West Ham; a game in which he had to mark Teddy Sheringham, and scored with a powerful header.

He made his competitive debut for Tottenham in the 3-1 win over Port Vale in the Carling Cup 4th round on 8 November 2006, partnering Michael Dawson in the heart of the Spurs defence.

Dervite suffered a knee injury while playing for the Spurs reserve side during a friendly match against Norwich in early January 2007, which kept him out for several months. He made a comeback to the Spurs first-team squad in November 2008 when he was named as a substitute for the UEFA Cup group game against Dinamo Zagreb. Dervite did not appear in the 4-0 win, though he was named in subsequent squads and given the number 63. Since, he has appeared as substitute, and captain of the reserve team. French U21 coach called him back early 2009. he is described as a key player in the french youth teams.

Considered one of the most promising French centre-backs!
