Simon Francis: Believes his talent is worthy of a higher stage

BBC Sport has reported that according to the agent of Simon Francis, one Gary Saunders if you don't know him, the Shrimpers full back has turned down a new three contract offer from Southend, even though he still has a year of his present deal left.

Now S24 are not one to usually believe the word of a guy whose very living depends on how much he can make out of his stable of players, however this one seems to have the ring of truth about it, as young Simon has come out himself and said a few words on the subject.

Francis said in a released statement: "I'm very happy here but it's now a case of wanting to make the most of my ability. I believe I can do better as a player than League Two and manager Steve Tilson and chairman Ron Martin know that. Peterborough wasn't the right move for me at the time but I hope Southend will be sympathetic to my cause."

'Sympathetic to my cause', let the auction begin.
