Dickinson: Scored from the spot

Dickinson: 'Still confident we can come back here and win the next game we have against them'

When your team hasn't won for six games, including four successive defeats, to go one up as early as the seventh minute, then go into the break with the opposition having had a player sent off, to be honest, you have to be confident your luck has changed.

Forget it, not when the team your facing has not spent enough on some decent floodlights, a state of affairs that didn't impress the Shrimpers spot-kick scorer Liam Dickinson, and quites rightly so!

Dickinson told www.echo-news.co.uk: “It was all a bit of a farce in the end and Aldershot will be more than pleased to see the game called off whereas we’re all quite frustrated. We couldn’t really have been in a better position to go on and win the game so it’s frustrating and I feel really sorry for the fans who have given up days with their families on Boxing Day to come and see the match. We appreciate them coming to see us but it’s a just a shame we weren’t given the opportunity to push on and get a win for them to celebrate.”

Yes, those unlucky supporters making that wasted journey to Hampshire, but it was quite a match for Liam who became the pantomine villian on Boxing Day when six minutes before the break Shots defender Darren Jones decided to take a swing at the former SStockport hitman and received an early bath for his troubles; then again, all the players were to join him soon enough!

Anyway, Liam felt here the match official Gavin Ward, worst referee in the world copyright www.facebook.com, certainly got it right here.

Dickinson said: “People may say I went down too easily but if you raise your arms you expect to get sent off. If it was the other way round I would expect to be shown a red card as well but I’m still confident we can come back here and win the next game we have against them.”

But Liam reluctantly admitted he would not be able to count his well taken penalty among his goal tally for the season.

He concluded: “I’ll try and argue that because it came up on Sky Sports News it counts as a goal but I’m not very hopeful about anyone else agreeing with me."

Don't think they will mate, and due to the fact Liam will have to serve a one match suspension for picking up his fifth yellow card at Aldershot, surprisingly that counts while his goal didn't!

There's just no justice!
