Di Canio: Optimistic

Di Canio: '(A win) can help us to keep our confidence going for when we play in the league again'

Questions were being asked about the wisdom of tonight's Johnstone's Paint trophy southern semi-final opponents Swindon Town in choosing former hamster striker Paolo Di Canio, and their were some mixed results at the beginning of the season, especially away from the County Ground, but an unbeaten run of 12 games, 16 us mate, has knocked most concerns into touch.

For now though, al la Luggy, the Italian legend has only thoughts of a day out in north-west London in March.

Oh, and has anyone told us yet, they were the last team to beat the league leaders, sometime in September!

Di Canio told www.thisisswindontownfc.co.uk: “It is a big chance for us to reach the two-legged final that will give us the chance to go to Wembley. For this reason I expect a big performance once again, not only because that will be important for us to go through but also for many other reasons, including that it can help us to keep our confidence going for when we play in the league again."

Still, any team that beats the Farmers in any competition, at at the care in the community lego stadium as well, can't be all bad.

Di Canio continued: "We are not worried about playing sides in League One so obviously that is the same for League Two. We play against the team who are top of the league but we beat them 2-0 already and we know that we can beat any side. It is important that we play with commitment like we showed against Colchester, but we are not worried.”

Well, you might not be; this is going to be a real toughie for the home side, and it will need one of Luggy's best motivational speeches to some weary players to get them up early enough in this one, his team selection and tactics are going to be vital, and not start doing the business after we go one down!
