Ilesanmi: 'Everyone knows they’ve got to do well to keep their place in the team'
Dag & Red left back Femi Ilesanmi felt his side played well enough to gain all three points in their game with the Shrimpers Bank Holiday Monday at Roots Hall.
They fell behind to Michael Timlin’s cracking opener but still went on to dominate the majority of the League Two clash, before finally equalising in the 87th minute with a strike by Brian Woodall.
Altogether though they had14 attempts on the United goal but still left south-east Essex with just the 1-1 draw.
Ilesanmi told www.london24.com: “Everyone would think that coming here and getting a point is a good result, but based on how we played I think we deserved three points. Unfortunately it didn’t come, but hopefully we’ll get more good results and kick on from here.”
Right at the end of the four minutes of stoppage time Ilesanmi made a terrific tackle that stopped Anthony Grant possibily grabbing the winner, however the South London boy played it down.
Ilesanmi said: “It was an alright tackle. But I have to thank Brian Woodall for getting us in the game, because if he doesn’t score that goal we would have lost.”
Ilesanmi is currently enjoying an extended run in the team, with regular left-back Damien McCrory out of the side with an ankle injury, which obviously Femi appreciates.
He concluded: “There’s a lot more confidence, lots of players are coming back and the team is strong. There’s competition for places, so everyone knows they’ve got to do well to keep their place in the team.”
That's three times now Daggers this season, 2 wins and a draw for the Shrimpers, and time to play other sides and get out of this division!
