Is Peterborough the mystery club after Francis?

The Shrimpers confirmed yesterday that they had accepted an improved bid for defender Simon Francis from an unamed Championship club but the right back could not agree personal terms.

The official site said: "Simon was reluctantly given permission to talks to the interested side today. It goes without saying we are delighted he will be staying with us."

Message boards were soon abuzz with rumours of who the club could be with relegation threatened Peterborough, owned by a multi millionaire, coming out as a favourite.

Is it the fat man trying to return to Roots Hall for the wrong reason?

Ex-manager and now Posh director of football Barry Fry did say to www.skysports.com: "It has been a very frustrating start to the transfer window due to the weather because we lined up four new signings to come in before the next game, but they haven't been finalised yet, so whether we will get them in before the next game is hit and miss."

As at the moment it's only a case of raising his wages a touch and three more weeks of the transfer window left opened there's still a good chance the player will leave.

As if Tilly's squad was small enough, but with the Echo continuing to print stories of players not being paid in December, which the club denies, where will this all end?

Leeds are meant to be sniffing around Lee Barnard if Beckford goes to Newcastle, if good money is on offer for both our top scorer and Simon, could the chairman possibily turn it down in our present financial situation?

This has been a tough enough season for the team and supporters alike, and with four months of it still left, it looks as if it will get much tougher yet.
