Martin: 'Things certainly look better than they did 12 months ago'
Well, we wrote it all up in summary Wednesday morning, and thanks for the e-mails, but here in all it's glory, EEB was taping after all bless him, are the words of Chairman Ron, and he's sorry, no honest, he is.
Martin told the AGM: "I've not done a great job over the past 18 months but I certainly haven't become distracted or derailed in my ambition for this football club. It was very disappointing to get relegated from League One but we want to get back to where we've come from - and the future does still look good for us. Things certainly look better than they did 12 months ago and there is enormous potential at this football club."
They couldn't get much worse Ron.
And as also reported earlier in S24 the Shrimpers supremo continues to believe we will have a new ground at Fossetts Farm in time for the 2012/13 season, and it will have four sides, once he finds someone, hopefully a hotel chain, to cough up the dosh.
Martin explained: "We are preparing to go out to tender in the first week of May. The tender report will be with us mid-July and that's an important time for us and we will determine the programme for building work from there. We're making good progress with some of the individuals now. Others won't talk to us at all though, but there are compulsory purchase orders on them which may encourage them to sell but that's something we would ideally like to avoid having to push through."
Oh well, we've heard it all before, we can just turn up, support the lads, and hope we do indeed see a Southend United football team playing somewhere next August, let alone in a couple of seasons!
