Clohessy: New deal

Clohessy: 'We need a win in the league again after the disappointment of losing at Cheltenham'

The only Shrimper with a 100% playing record this season is right-back Sean Clohessy, who having turned 25 Monday would like to celebrate with looking forward to a trip to Liverpool in the new year, trouble is they have to get past Oldham Athletiic first in the FA Cup Second Round replay at Boundary Park this evening.

Clohessy told www.echo-news.co.uk: “Sitting on a coach for a long trip up to Oldham wasn’t the best to celebrate my actual birthday but winning the tie would definitely make up for that. It would be great if we could go and play Liverpool in the next round but we want to win every game we play and this is no different. Whether it’s the league, JPT, FA Cup or even in training you always want to win and that obviously goes for tonight as well.”

However, for all the excitement at Roots Hall of the opportunity to take on one of the Premiership giants, £200k could be earned from the tie according to club sources, the league's the thing, and it was Saturday November 19th, nearly a month now, since the Shrimpers tasted victory on the fourth tier, 3-2 at Dagenham & Redbridge.

Clohessy concluded: “The FA Cup is a nice distraction and going to Liverpool would be a big bonus but we all know Friday’s game matters more. We need a win in the league again after the disappointment of losing at Cheltenham at the weekend and hopefully we can go in to the game on the back of a good result against Oldham.”

And we couldn't agree more, best of luck Sean in both games.
