Clarke: 'Huddersfield desperately want to win'

Huddersfield skipper Peter Clarke made over 120 appearances for the Shrimpers over three seasons and was voted Player of the Season by the Roots Hall faithful only last May.

And not surprisingly, he's looking forward to facing us again at the Galpharm Stadium Saturday afternoon.

Speaking to www.examiner.co.uk Clarkey said: "Our whole week is geared towards 3.00 on a Saturday, and it's great to have the game to look forward to. Being against Southend, where I had three good years, adds an extra element for me. But I'm very much a Huddersfield Town player now and believe me, we desperately want to win."

The Terriers are unbeaten at home this season, in fact Southend's 1-0 win last April was the last time they were beaten, a spot-kick by Lee Barnard. Clarkey played in that game along with Theo Robinson, who also signed for the West Yorkshire side having been on loan for the Shrimpers from Watford.

Clarke knows his new side will not be given an easy ride by a Southend team chasing their third successive win at Huddersfield.

He continued: "They have an experienced manager in Steve Tilson, who gets them to perform with real endeavour.who will be chasing a third straight win in Huddersfield. Steve has brought in one or two on loan, but the majority of the side were there when I was, so it will be interesting to play against them."

The fixture computer picked out the Terriers for Southend's first match back in August at Roots Hall with the game finishing 2-2 after the Blues had taken a two goal lead. Clarke and Robinson were both making their Huddersfield debut's.

Clarkey concluded: "Time seems to have flown by since then, which is a sign of how much I'm enjoying myself here. We've got ourselves into a handy position, but know we can do better still, and with so much football still to play, there's no reason why we can't get into one of the automatic promotion slots."
