Easton: 'I think the future is looking good'

Southend have not had a bad season considering the goings on, and just goings, of last summer, which saw former Swindon and Orient midfielder Craig Easton joining the Essex boys as club captain in Paul Sturrock's revolution.

And for the next campaign the Scottish born Shrimpers skipper is hoping that a top seven place is not out of the question.

Easton told BBC Essex: "I think the manager has a long-term plan and it doesn't happen overnight. Coming from where we were at the start of last season we're moving forward. It bodes well for next season."

It should, but the faithful needs more than words and wants to see some positive action at Roots Hall before the more sceptical amongst them is pulled around.

Not that being broke helps that of course, but, if nobody leaves that Luggy doesn't want to, there is the making of a half decent squad.

Easton continued: "It took time for not only the squad to gel but also for the fans to build-up a relationship with the players and that's understandable. I think the future is looking good and I'd love to be a part of it. We're starting to sit down and talk about things and hopefully we can sort something out and build for next season."

We all hope so as well skip, but how about signing that new contract!
