Brady:  'I think the league will be tougher this season'

Shrimpers chief executive Tara Brady is confident that the Essex boys are in with a real chance of getting out of the basement division next time around.

Brady told www.echo-news.co.uk: “Last year we had a solid season considering our starting position but we’re stronger now and the target is definitely for us to go up next year. I think the league will be tougher this season because of the teams who have come up from the league below and those who have come down from above. But with the signing of Neil Harris and others I intend to bring in, we certainly hope to be up there challenging.”

'I will bring in!' Move over Uncle Ron, but please let this not this be spin.

Of course, with tweets and rumours flying around the Southend support at the moment of these imminient signings, just another 48 hours player/coach Graham Coughlan told us Tuesday, after the previous ones, we await news that talks with Crystal Palace midfielder Alassane N’Diaye over a season-long loan deal have been successful.

Blues boss Paul Sturrock has also been quoted that another striker and wide player are positions that are being seriously looked at and expects a new player to join the club by Friday.

While only last night Shrimeprs striker Barry Corr was tweeting that: 'I think we're not far off signing a utility player on loan and a central midfield player. Both good apparently, I've played against 1 of em. Championship loan, league 2 midfielder. The club are in talks with lots of players but these 2 I hear are pretty close.

Meanwhile, Brady keeps his best corporate face on and tells us all is well.

Brady concluded: “It will be great to get going again and I’m sure all the players have stayed in shape during their break and are raring to go. The pre-season schedule has been carefully planned and hopefully it will make a difference this year.”
