Sturrock: Hit the winner against Rotherham

Blair Sturrock: Shrimpers could have a striker shortage come August 6th!

We've already heard that 21-goal man Barry Corr will miss the start of the new season after an ankle injury that saw the son of Blues boss Paul Sturrock, the 'jedi' warrior Blair, limp off during the Shrimpers final game of last season at  Wycombe Wanderers following an accidental challenge from his own team-mate Bilel Mohsni who was playing up front at the time, due to the absense of one goal scoring Dubliner!

Shrimpers physiotherapist Ben Clarkson told www.echo-news.co.uk: “Blair had two injections into his ankle on Monday and we will have to wait five days now to see how that works. His progress has stalled over the last couple of weeks but we will try him out with some impact work at the end of the week and then see how he reacts to it. If it flares up again then he may need an operation, but that would obviously be a last resort and something we want to avoid because that would keep him out for longer.”

As written in the Big Baz injury report this could mean a bigger effort to get Rohan Ricketts to sign on the dotted line, or it could be an early promotion for Harry Crawford or, more likely, Kyle Asante joining Neil Harris up front unless Luggy goes for the two wideboy approach with both Ryan Hall and Jemal Johnson on the wing and Bomber leading the line on his own.
