Benyon: 'Southend United have more than what it takes to get up automatically'

Benyon: 'Ready to work hard for Southend and be part of a promotion winning side'

So he's a Shrimper, or will be on New Years Day when the transfer window reopens again, young Elliot Benyon certainly has the pedigree to be a major asset in the club's push for promotion back in to the third tier of league football.

And it seems Blues boss Paul Sturrock has been after him for a while!

Benyon told www.southendunited.co.uk: "I managed to get here in the end. Last season at Torquay went really well for me and I heard that Southend were interested then along with a couple of other clubs. i heard about a week ago that Southend were back in again and as soon as I knew that it was the club I wanted to come to. It didn't happen last time round but I am here now and looking forward to it."

A tough time for the 5ft 9 striker followed when Benyon joined Swindon Town who were down the bottom of League One struggling for points, while his loan spell to home town club Wycombe Wanderers was hit by a hand injury before he'd even really got started!

Benyon continued: "In football sometimes things just don't work out and that is what happened to me at my last two clubs unfortunately. i don't want to make excuses about my time at Wycombe but I broke my hand in pre-season and I was out for eight weeks and then I really couldn't get back into the team. I have to put that behind me and be ready to work hard for Southend and be part of a promotion winning side. This is a fresh start though and I am looking forward to scoring goals and playing games. I'm looking forward to find the sort of form I had at Torquay in this division as early as I can, that's a definite. As soon as I get a goal then hopefully I will be flying again."

One against the Daggers will do fine Elliot, no pressure though.

Benyon concluded on a positive note: "100% I believe Southend have what it takes this season to get promoted. They are a very good team who are third in the league with a game in hand and have more than what it takes to get up automatically."

Welcome to Roots Hall Elliot, who confirmed he had spoken to our present Robins loanee Michael Timlin, before putting pen to paper, and good luck from everyone at S24.
