Barrett: 'We have to develop a siege mentality'

Shrimpers captain and all round legend Adam Barrett has been here before but probably in not such difficult circumstances.

A result of some kind in Saturday's game with play-off contenders Swindon Town with Colchester away to follow was tough enough without losing tough tackling midfielder Alan McCormack and seeming to not be able to attract any new signings to Roots Hall.

Captain Adam spoke to the Echo: "Things are tough for us at the moment and I think we're in a relegation fight to be honest. The league is very close and a lot teams in the bottom of the table are in a similar situation but we need to start picking up points."

He knows that losing top scorer Lee Barnard has not done wonders for the teams confidence but they have to overcome that and other problems.

Adam continued: "It's not easy because we've lost a lot of goals with Lee Barnard leaving and we're having to throw people in. We're plugging holes and I think it's time for us to develop a bit of siege mentality. We have to get a bit uglier and grind out some results. It doesn't matter how we play we just need to make sure we get some points because we don't want to get dragged down the table even further."
