Baldwin: 'My mum and dad live just around the corner'

They're here and just in time, with the Roots Hall faithful still awaiting news from the injured players to see what starting eleven Blues boss Steve Tilson puts out against the Robins the ColU two will certainly be welcome.

Centre back Balders told www.southendunited.co.uk: "I'm only human and it's going to be weird playing for Southend having been at Colchester, but I'm just happy to be offered the chance to play games. It's a local club for me as well though, as my mum and dad live just around the corner. As long as you do well and show that you are fully committed then hopefully, the fans will take to Scott and I."

Scott Vernon

Vernon: '

Striker Scott Vernon comes to Roots Hall on the back of a hat-trick against Maldon in the Essex Senior Cup midweek, his first game back after being out with an ankle injury, and believes the fact Southend keep the ball on the green stuff will help his game.

Scotty also spoke to the official site: "I'm very happy to have signed for Southend and I felt this was an opportunity I couldn't pass up. I'm just getting back to fitness now and it's a case of getting games and playing for the first time for the rest of the season. I had other offers, but I live in Colchester and Southend were the most local club and I also feel that the style of play here will suit me."
