Baldwin: Making good progress

Baldwin: 'With the team flying I think this will get that enthusiasm and fire back in the belly again'

Shrimpers sixth new signing of the January transfer window knows his way around Roots Hall having been on loan for 18 games during the 2009/10 season, a campaign that ended in relegation, so centre-back Pat Baldwin is happy enough to be back and helping us out on at the right end of the table this time!

Baldwin told www.southendunited.co.uk"As soon as it was a possibilty to come to Southend it felt completely right and I am ready to get cracking. Ideally I want to play as high as I can but I have been here before and I really enjoyed my time. With the team flying I think this will get that enthusiasm and fire back in the belly again."

The former Chelsea trainee was a popular lad in his previous incarnation as a Shrimper even though results wise it didn't go to well as he, and us, would have liked.

Baldwin explained: "It was a difficult period for everyone last time and it affected people on the pitch. It was very unfortunate that the club got relegated but on a personal level I really enjoyed it and it was sad to see it end the way it did. I am just thankful now though that I have another chance to comeback."

As we are to see you Pat, who is looking forward to meeting up again with former team mate Chris Barker, blimey I forgot the skipper had been a farmer, 38 league games back in 2006/07 on loan from Cardiff for a whole season!

Baldwin said: "Whatever team I play for I always give 100% so i would like to think I won people over. But it is down to me to play well again and get to the sort of level I know I can perform at. I hope I can get to play with Chris again he is a fantastic footballer and hopefully I can get the nod from the manager."

So it's the end of an era for the U's as Baldwin leaves after nine years but as he could leave as a free agent in the summer anyway good for club and player to make the move in mid-season.

He concluded: "I was ready to leave Colchester. I got it in my head that I was ready to go and it's a bit disappointing as I had a testimonial coming up. I have given that up to try and get games elsewhere but is how it has worked out and I am thankful I have this chance to try and progress my career."

Welcome back mate, to the right end of Essex.
