Another striker for Shrimper as Flood flows into Roots Hall in time for Cobblers

Flood; part of a 1-1-8 formation to be tried by Luggy at Northampton?

It's official, Shrimpers have made their fifth signing of the January transfer window, and the fourth striker!

Blues boss Paul Sturrock has decided that if the opposition get two, we're get six!

The hitman of course is Anto Flood who we're told left Bohemians the League of Ireland Premier Division to try his luck across the Irish sea at the end of 2011, and impressed Luggy enough in the recent behind closed door trail game against Colchester United, did he get our goal in the 2-1 defeat I wonder?

The final clue to his imminent arrival was there last night when he placed on his Facebook staurs page: 'Everything sorted now happy days of to Southend United over the moon speck to yis all when i see yis'

Still, it was a gamble to make it a lead story last night and I'm pleased it came off, as well as finally putting the return of Freddie Eastwood to bed, maybe!

Flood arrives at Roots Hall on a free transfer until the end of the season.

It also seems he has a bit of an attitude about him that they didn't always appreciate across the Irish sea, Luggy certainly doesn't mind making life hard for himself, and at his age as well.

Anto's shirt number will be the same as the one vacated by loanee keeper Luke Daniels 31, while fellow forward Jack Sampson has been given 26.

He's scored eight times in 33 league games for Bohemians having joined from Örebro SK in Sweden, and overall in his career he's he's grabbed 37 goals in 76 league appearances. (For all his clubs see 'Flood Files' below.)

And it's also been confirmed is that Flood has received international clearance from the Irish FA and will be available for Saturday's trip to Northampton Town, though my bet is he will be watching his new team mates from the stand.

With only five subs I think we have enough strikers in the squad as it is, unless Elliot Benyon is not passed fit, and then Sampson would probably make his debut with Flood indeed on the bench.

My head hurts, and for once it's not the beer!
