Adams: Disappointed

Adams: 'Wouldn't say we are down to the bare bones, but certainly we have got some injuries'

Valiants boss Mickey Adams is as straight as you get and he knows that as his squad diminishes by the hour, how he must look upon Luggy and his three signings in a week in envy, there is still a game to be played on Saturday afternoon in south-east Essex against the third placed club in League Two.

Adams told: www.port-vale.co.uk: "I wouldn't say we are down to the bare bones, but certainly we have got some injuries, and people that remain doubtful for Saturday. We have to work with what we have got, if that means supplementing the squad with youth players, then that's what we will do. That's the job, that's the hand I have got, we are not going to make excuses for losing games of football it's 11 v 11 and we are all playing for our futures. I am not a shrinking violet and I will not let the players hide away. We have got to work as diligently as we possibily can to get results. You know me, if we get beaten on Saturday, it will because Southend deserve it more than we do - and I will say that."

Might not if we get a dodgy penalty in the 89th minute, and he still has some decent players around, Marc Richards upfront is fairly useful!

He also notices that against the top sides Port Vale are strugglng, they have yet to beat a side in the top seven!

Adams said: "We have gone down to 13th in the table, and there are 12 other clubs above us. We have beaten some of them, and some we haven't. But you and I both know that, that can change very quickly. If we go there with the mentality that we can't win the game, then we will surely will get beaten. So we have to go there with the mentality that we can beat anyone in this division, and I am convinced on our day we can."

The Shrimpers will certainly have to be on top of their game, something they haven't been lately, not at Roots Hall anyway, and a Mickey Adams side will always put up a fight,it should be a good game with second place in League Two the prize for Southend if they do indeed pick up the win.
